WTLS seeks Staff Attorney

Available Position: Staff Attorney

Background:

West Tennessee Legal Services, Inc. is seeking a Staff Attorney to work in Jackson, TN to provide free legal assistance pursuant to a private enforcement initiative/multi-year funding component grant from the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development. The grant’s purpose is to provide fair housing enforcement across Tennessee.

Job Description: West Tennessee Legal Services, Inc. is seeking a staff attorney with a strong commitment to delivery of high quality legal assistance to persons who may be the victims of housing discrimination, may be experiencing landlord/tenant issues, or may be in mortgage default or foreclosure.  Position includes representation in court and before quasi-judicial or administrative agencies of government.  

Qualifications: Candidates must possess excellent writing and oral communication skills, ability to manage multiple tasks, skills sufficient to implement an array of advocacy strategies, ability to manage a caseload, ability to build collaborative relationships within the community, commitment to being a team player, ability to travel as necessary,  and ability to use computer systems including case management software.  Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.    Licensure in Tennessee required.

Salary:

$36,000 + D.O.E. Excellent benefits package. Relaxed office atmosphere.
